Some of the greatest feelings in the world include climbing into a bed that’s got freshly washed bed linen on it, drinking a cool glass of water when you’re really, really thirsty and finally throwing your bra off at the end of a long day (#freedom). There’s another way to get that no bra feeling - ditch the underwire and try a wire free bra instead.
Here are the best wire free bras in Australia. Whether you’ve got a large bust, small or anything in between, you’ll love our picks from mainly local businesses that are ethically and sustainably made. So, you can feel smug while also feeling exceptionally comfortable. It’s a win-win.
Ok, so WE-AR is actually a Kiwi company but in the grand scale of the planet, we figure New Zealand is close enough. WE-AR has a planet- and people-loving focus, producing gorgeous clothing that’s mindfully made in Bali from natural materials.
We rate their Slip Bralette, especially because I (Cosier editor Sarah) have one. It’s so ridiculously comfortable. That’s thanks to the material (natural viscose with a touch of elastane). The elastane keeps the bralette snug so it feels supportive. Soft against my skin, I could wear this thing 24/7. I also loved how it turned up wrapped in earth-friendly material and smelling delightful, with a tiny sandalwood sachet. The triangle shape is super flattering and honestly, I love how it looks (read: how it makes my boobs look).
It has adjustable straps so you can get the right fit and it comes in gorgeous colours inspired by nature. Although the sizing isn’t the most varied we’ve found, coming in just 4 options (XS - L).
What we love: Mindfully made, WE-AR makes the kind of clothes you never want to take off.
Bimby + Roy
A proudly Aussie label, Bimby + Roy is the lovechild of two sisters who grew up in the Fiji Islands. They make stunning bralettes that are almost too pretty to hide under your clothes.
Designed in Australia, they’re made in the Fiji Islands in the first solar-powered facility in the region. That’s some serious eco-chops. Plus, they use an environmentally-friendly printing process that means no toxic dyes in the water.
Their wire free bras are made of recycled polyester and spandex, which means they hug your body, offering good support. The straps are adjustable too.
We love their feminine and beautiful designs, plus their sizing which goes from XS to XXL.
What we love: Well-fitting supportive bralettes in gorgeous prints, ethically and sustainably made in the Fiji Islands by a proudly Aussie company - there are a lot of reasons to love Bimby + Roy.
Made with organic cotton in a Fair Trade factory, pact is earth-friendly. By only producing underwear made of organic cotton, they’re saving huge amounts of water and not using any nasty chemicals. Fair Trade factories ensure safe working conditions and a liveable wage for happier, healthier communities. You can even carbon offset your delivery and take part in their clothing donation programme.
What would make pact perfect is if they were a local brand. Unfortunately they’re not, they’re US-based - but at least you can reduce the impact of the long delivery journey, if you choose.
We’ve got our eye on their Smooth Cup Bralette with its lace band detail and removable pads. As a member of the itty bitty titty committee, I don’t always love having padding forced on me. But sometimes I appreciate the option.
The Double Scoop Wire Free Bra has a more athleisure feel, complete with a wide supportive band.
What we love: With goals to become earth’s favourite clothing brand, pact only uses organic cotton and Fair Trade factories to produce quality, comfortable and supportive wire free bras.
NICO produces everyday basics with a twist - they’re both minimal and luxurious, thanks to their sustainable and soft fabrics. Although NICO is an Australian company, they ethically make their wire free bras in India.
We’re in love with their choice of botanic fabric, especially tencel modal which is made from beechwood trees and is super soft. You’ve got options for organic cotton, if you prefer. Even their dyes are 100% chemical free.
We really like their Basics Full Cup Wire free Bra because, as the name tells you, it’s full cup. Wire free bras don’t always offer full coverage, preferring a triangle shape, so if you’ve got bigger boobs, this could be the one for you. We also like that there’s a hidden rigid lining at the centre of the bra, almost like the two cups of a traditional wired bra. This gives great shape. It also features adjustable straps and a clasp at the back, so it fits like a regular bra. Basically, it’s all the good stuff of a wired bra, without the wires.
What we love: Australian owned, ethically made with natural fibres, NICO wire free bras will quickly become your new favourite bra.
The Very Good Bra
You might not think much about what happens to your old bras once you’re done with them. The Very Good Bra does. This is eco lingerie that’s - get this - 100% compostable. Not only will worms enjoy a feed, it’s a zero waste bra too from an Aussie company.
That means no polyester thread, nylon labels, synthetic elastic or spandex / elasthane. You can bury your bra in the garden or place it in your organic bin when you’re finished with it. The all-natural materials are great for your planet and for your skin too as they’re super soft. Though be aware that because there’s no spandex, there’s not much stretch. Plus, the straps are made from tree rubber elastic so it’s not suitable if you’ve got latex allergies.
The Very Good Bra itself comes in actual bra sizes rather than just small, medium, etc. It’s also got a traditional hook and eye back fastening and adjustable straps.
We love their new V for Victory bra which we reckon is the best wire free bra for a large bust. 100% organic cotton, it suits up to E cups thanks to its front V wire which separates larger cup sizes (and supports smaller ones).
What we love: It’s the world’s first zero waste bra. Enough said.
Eco Intimates is all about natural wire free bras that are ethically and sustainably handmade - and look as good as they feel. An Aussie company, Eco Intimates are designed in Australia and made in Bali by small, home-based businesses with eco fabrics, including organic cotton.
There’s a huge range of wire free bras on offer and we love that you can browse by cup size to find your perfect fit - they run from A - G cups. Some bralettes have been specially designed for bigger cups, giving extra coverage and support. There are bras, bralettes, crop bras and even bandeaus meaning there’s something for every bust.
What we love: Eco Intimates produce handmade wire free bras made with eco-friendly fabrics in a beautiful range of colours and design to suit every size and style.
Comfortable, beautiful and people- and planet-friendly wire free bras - Jackfruit has got it all. Each of their pieces are made right here in Australia in small batches, using solar energy to make and dye them. They’re handmade to order so you’re getting an utterly unique bra. Plus, Jackfruit even offers customisation (most of which are free!) so you can be sure your new bralette is going to fit perfectly.
We love the simplicity of their undyed bralette that has adjustable straps and a hook and eye back closure. Darted, it allows more space in the cup. It comes in a great range of sizes (6-24) and in your choice of strap width (12mm or 19mm).
For smaller boobs, we rate their desert sage dart-less bralette. In their signature colour, it too has adjustable straps, a back closure and a wide size range (6-26).
What we love: Handmade with love in Australia, Jackfruit crafts beautiful, soft and supportive wire free bras that’ll make you look and feel great.
