To kick things off, we'll recommend each mattress to a few different sleepers. We also encourage you to check out our full Eva mattress review and Emma Diamond Hybrid mattress review for more info.

Who should buy the Eva mattress?

We reckon side sleepers and back sleepers will enjoy the firm, supportive feel of the Eva mattress. Thanks to its minimal partner disturbance, it’s ideal for people who share a bed. Its breathability and coolness impressed us too, so it’s great for hot sleepers.

Who should buy the Emma Diamond Hybrid mattress?

Hot sleepers, people who have particularly wriggly co-sleepers or people who need extra back support will find a lot to enjoy in the Emma Diamond mattress. With prices starting from $2,499 this is definitely more a master bedroom mattress than a guest or kid’s one.

Ali reckons side and back sleepers who prefer a medium to firm mattress will love the Emma Diamond. Because it combines the hugging feel of foam with the support of springs, weight is distributed evenly making it a good choice for anyone with back pain.

We reckon so. We rate its great combination of quality materials. As a hybrid mattress, it’s packing latex, gel memory foam and pocket springs. This trio gives great support and comfort and reduces partner disturbance. It also helps keep the Eva mattress cool and breathable. Which - as anyone who’s ever sweated through a hot Aussie night knows - is super important.

Add to this quick delivery, wheels on the box to easily move it around, handles to easily turn it and a medium-soft feel, and you’ve got one of the best value mattresses we’ve ever slept on.

What we loved

  • Hybrid construction that makes it oh-so-comfortable and supportive.
  • Super-breathable and cool thanks to the pocket springs that allow air to circulate.
  • Minimal partner disturbance.
  • Longer than standard trial period and warranty.
  • Transparency around their manufacturers.

The not-so-good bits

  • The metres and metres of soft plastic that Eva vacuum-seals mattresses in.
  • Tendency to feel a little like you’re rolling into the middle.
  • Heavy, with a queen weighing 55kg.

What we loved

  • The pressure relieving feel of the mattress that moulds to your body.
  • Great suitability for hot sleepers.
  • None to very little motion transfer.
  • Very little off-gassing smell.

The not-so-good bits

  • Even though Emma says it’s medium-soft, most sleepers find it firm especially for the first few weeks. Our sleep tester Ali reckons it’s medium to firm.
  • Lack of edge support makes the sleepable area of the mattress feel smaller.
  • Rope in someone to help you manoeuvre the mattress as it’s quite heavy.

What's the Eva and Emma Diamond Hybrid made from?

Let’s look inside the Eva and Emma Diamond Hybrid mattresses. We’ll break down the materials and technology used and how this impacts their overall feel and sleep performance.

What's the Eva mattress made from?

The Eva mattress is a hybrid mattress, which means it’s got both foam and pocket springs. Its 4 layers consist of:

  1. Gel memory foam for cooling and pressure relief.
  2. Latex foam for breathability and support.
  3. High density foam for firmness.
  4. 5 zone pocket springs to minimise partner disturbance. Plus extra springs along the side pockets gives edge support so you don’t slip off when putting your socks on.

What's the Emma Diamond Hybrid mattress made from?

Unlike the Emma Comfort, the Emma Diamond is a hybrid mattress. This means it’s got both foam and springs in 4 layers:

  1. Diamond Degree graphite foam which helps prevent heat build up and reduces partner disturbance.
  2. Adaptive comfort foam which is pressure relieving and responds as you move for all-night comfort.
  3. Pocket springs which increase air flow for a cool night’s sleep and minimise partner movements.
  4. HRX foam for extra support, especially for your back.

The Emma Diamond mattress has a removable and washable cover that’s 99% polyester and 1% elastane. The bottom of the cover is 100% polyester, while the base is 87% polyester and 13% polypropylene.

Eva vs Emma Diamond Hybrid: Comparing the fine print

It's always a smart move to read the fine print. Let's dig into some company info for Eva and Emma Diamond Hybrid, so you can make an informed buying decision.

Eva sleep trial, shipping and warranty

The Eva mattress comes with a whopping standard free trial of 365 nights. Shipping is fairly standard too, with next-day metro delivery. Non-metro areas will take between 1-8 business days. Wherever you are in Australia, shipping is free.

Oh, and they’ll only deliver to your door, not inside your home. If you live in an apartment complex or have lots of stairs, you might want to rope someone in to help.

The Eva mattress warranty is better than standard (10 years). Instead, it comes with a 12-year warranty. Which is even more impressive when you consider you’re paying less than a grand for even the largest size.

Emma Diamond Hybrid sleep trial, shipping and warranty

You’ve got 100 nights to try the Diamond. If it’s not right for you within this time, you can send it back. Emma asks that you give it at least 3-4 weeks before returning it. Returning it involves emailing them to arrange a free pick-up. This only applies to customers within their delivery area. Customers outside these areas (which aren’t listed on their website) need to take the mattress to their nearest drop off location, at their own time and expense. Once Emma has the mattress, they refund you within 14 days.

The Emma Diamond mattress has a 10-year warranty. This warranty covers sags or dips that are greater than 2.5cm, cracks or hollows in the foam, a mattress that doesn't fully inflate within 2 weeks, and damage to the cover (but not normal wear and tear). Claiming under the warranty involves emailing Emma with photos of the problem.

Emma offers free shipping, Australia-wide. Delivery timeframes vary massively. For in stock Diamond mattresses, you’re looking at 1-7 business days. But for those on backorder, it can be between 6 to 9 weeks. Unfortunately this seems to be where Emma struggles. There are some unhappy Aussies complaining that shipping has either been massively delayed (way beyond 6-7 weeks and into 4-6 months) or simply hasn’t turned up. Communications with Emma have been reduced to automated emails telling customers their order is delayed. It’s a shame that these shipping issues seem to be detracting from a great mattress.
